ThreeBond 1184 is designed for sealing aluminum engine housings and other metal joints where traditional paper gaskets are no longer desired, such as timing covers or primary covers. This gray, semi-drying synthetic rubber forms a reliable barrier on surfaces that are uneven or have wider gaps, providing a firm and durable seal. It withstands exposure to engine oil, water, fuel vapors, and fluctuating temperatures, making it suitable for demanding mechanical environments. Before use, ensure both contact surfaces are thoroughly cleaned and free from oil. Apply a thin, even layer to each side and assemble the components roughly one minute after application. The sealant begins to lose tack in about 12 minutes, offering enough working time for accurate positioning. Excess material that is pressed out during assembly can be easily removed with acetone.
